Professional Development

Program Descriptions

IEDSE is now in the process of establishing and refining Professional Development programs; these will take the form of live classes, online courses, and self-paced modules. This instruction will encompass proven online science teaching methods and enable professors to transition from teaching campus based lab science classes to distance education delivery methods. Subject Matter Experts (“SMEs”) develop class content. Instructional designers develop and write curriculum. Multimedia producers create video, audio, and web-based interactive components; experienced online lab science professors deliver these programs.

The objective of professional development programs is to bring together science faculty, instructional designers, administrators, and other science education stakeholders. IEDSE arranges workshops, presentations, and forums that share best practices, experiences, case studies, student work product, and ideas in the advancement of distance science education. The location selections for these conferences, symposiums, and meetings will be determined by the needs and locations of participants and presenters.

Expertise & Qualifications

Experienced distance education teachers and professors from diverse academic institutions will conduct IEDSE's Professional Development Programs and related conferences, symposiums, and meetings. These educators will be currently teaching biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, physics, microbiology, forensics, and other science disciplines online at various K-12 schools, community colleges, career colleges, and four-year institutions.

IEDSE presenters will be individuals whose academic credentials will also include presenting workshops and presentations at respected industry conferences. Conferences include the National Association of Biology Teachers; the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society; the American Society for Microbiology; the Association for Science Teacher Education; the League for Innovations for Community Colleges; the Sloan Consortium; the American Association of Community Colleges; the Higher Learning Commission, and other science and distance education related events.

IEDSE welcomes instructors' involvement. Any educator interested in being a part of our Professional Development Educators Team and wishing to assist IEDSE in the planning, development, and implementation of our programs should contact us.

Location of Activities

The majority of Professional Development programs will not be location dependent since many will be offered via an instructor-led online delivery method and in online, self-paced formats. Some Professional Development programs will be presented in a live format at venues around the United States. Conferences, symposiums, and meetings will be held at sites appropriate for the projected number and location of attendees, specific technology requirements, and the locations of interested instructors. Locations may include donated classrooms, rooms made available to the foundation by businesses; hotel spaces, rented conference facilities, and other suitable and affordable facilities.

Sponsorship at Educational Forums

IEDSE sponsors educators desiring to speak on the topic of online lab science teaching practices at appropriate education conferences and symposiums. Science educators interested in submitting a speaking abstract or proposal who would like consideration for sponsorship, should contact us at info@IEDSE.com .
